Faculty V - Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems, Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Technical Acoustics / Chair of Numerical Fluid Dynamics
Research Assistant - PostDoc
part-time employment may be possible
Your responsibility
Within the ERC Consolidator Grant ECHO, which investigates thermoacoustic phenomena in hydrogen combustion systems, a 2-year Research Associate (Postdoctoral Researcher) position is available. The successful candidate will play a leading role in the scientific and organisational development of the project, working closely with the Principal Investigator while supporting the coordination of the overall research programme. They will supervise doctoral candidates and student assistants and contribute to the integration of the experimental and theoretical activities carried out within the project. The research focuses on improving the fundamental understanding of high-frequency thermoacoustic instabilities and the dynamics of can-annular combustors, with particular emphasis on hydrogen combustion, and developing strategies for their prediction and control with modern machine learning tools. The successful candidate will take an active role in both the experimental and fundamental investigations, contributing to the design and execution of combustion experiments, the analysis and interpretation of experimental data, the development of reduced-order and data-driven models, and the dissemination of research results. The Postdoctoral position also offers the opportunity to support the organisation of themed colloquia, workshops, and other scientific events.
Your profile
- Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline by December 2026
- Demonstrated expertise in thermoacoustics, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in the field
- Strong technical knowledge of high-frequency thermoacoustics and/or can-annular combustors, proven by publications in the field
- Proven research experience with machine learning methods and modern flow-data processing technique
- Proven ability to conduct independent research and coordinating a small research team
- Good command of English and/or German; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
- Experience in experimental combustion and thermoacoustic diagnostics desirable
