Research Assistant - 0.75 working-time

Your responsibility

Participation in the DFG collaborative research project “Optical gain and photon correlations in nanolasers fully based on TMDC materials.” The aim of the project is the development of novel nanolasers based on resonator structures entirely composed of TMDC semiconductor materials, in order to achieve significantly enhanced light–matter coupling and improved lasing performance. Through combined optical and quantum-optical experiments as well as theoretical many-body modeling, the underlying mechanisms of optical gain-particularly the role of excitonic effects-will be investigated. The project aims to establish the physical foundations for a new class of ultracompact and efficient nanolasers for integrated photonics and quantum technologies.

Your profile

A successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in physics or a related field is required. Solid knowledge of solid-state physics and semiconductor physics as well as quantum optics, particularly in the area of light–matter interaction in semiconductor systems, is mandatory. Furthermore, a strong and demonstrable interest as well as initial practical experience in experimental research in nanophotonics, quantum optics, or two-dimensional materials (TMDCs) is required, for example evidenced by a relevant master’s thesis or research internships. The ability to work independently in a scientific environment is essential, including the willingness to quickly and autonomously acquire new experimental methods in optical and quantum-optical spectroscopy. Excellent academic performance is expected. In addition, strong analytical skills, high scientific motivation, and creativity in addressing complex physical problems are mandatory prerequisites for successful work within the project. Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.

Initial practical experience in experimental semiconductor physics, nanophotonics, or quantum optics -such as optical spectroscopy, laser techniques, cryogenic techniques, or microscopic characterization-is highly desirable. Basic knowledge of scientific data analysis and programming (e.g., Python) is advantageous. Experience in interdisciplinary research environments is also welcome. The motivation to present scientific results at international conferences and publish them in peer-reviewed journals is desirable.
