Student assistant (40 hours per month)
Your responsibility
Scientific support activities under supervision in the DFG project “EnginKnow – Engineering Knowledge for Target-Driven Sustainable Product Development”. The project is developing a methodology and a software tool to help engineers systematically incorporate strategic sustainability goals in the early stages of product development.
- Scientific support in establishing and maintaining product data structures (BOM, bills of materials) for two mechatronic demonstrators (25%)
- Support in conducting and documenting life cycle assessments (LCA) in OpenLCA for the demonstrator products (30%)
- Scientific support in mapping product characteristics to sustainability indicators according to LCA methodology (ISO 14040 ff.) (20%)
- Scientific literature research on prject relevant topics (LCA integration into product development phases, PLM- and ontology-based product description) (10%)
- Support in developing a guide for the application of decision support in sustainable product development (15%)
Your profile
Mandatory:
- Strong knowledge of product development processes (according to VDI 2221, Pahl/Beitz)
- Basic knowledge of life cycle assessment (LCA) or ecological product evaluation
- Basic understanding of virtual product development (PLM, CAD, knowledge-based engineering, requirements management, feature and functional modeling)
- Good knowledge of the structured collection and documentation of technical product and process data in accordance with engineering standards
- Good knowledge of scientific research and the systematic review of the state of the art
- Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with LCA software (OpenLCA, SimaPro, GaBi/Sphera)
- Good knowledge in PLM/PDM systems (Teamcenter, Windchill, Enovia) and product data standards (STEP, SysML, eClass)
- Basic knowledge of Python or MATLAB for data preparation
