Chemical-Technical Assistant (CTA)

part-time employment may be possible

Your responsibility

As part of a 3-year research project focused on evaluating lithium resources in rock formations of the North German Basin, we are looking for a dedicated Chemical-Technical Assistant (CTA). The position is tied to the duration of the project.
Responsibilities include experimental and analytical support in sample processing, laboratory analyses, and the optimization of existing analytical methods, in close collaboration with an associated scientific project position.

Main responsibilities include:

Laboratory analytical work:

  • Preparation and processing of rock samples (crushing, sieving, digestion, thin sections)
  • Independent operation of XRD, XRF, µXRF, IR, and ICP/MS instruments after appropriate training
  • Setting up calibration series and contributing to method development
  • Support in laboratory organization
  • Supervision of time-series analyses and corresponding documentation
  • Preparation of analytical data for interpretation

Specialized analytics and method support:

  • Production and handling of nanopowders for LA-ICP-MS analyses
  • Assistance in the preparation of analytical campaigns

Your profile

  • Completed vocational training as a state-recognized CTA or UTA or chemical laboratory assistant with final examination and equivalent skills
  • Proficiency in instrumental analytics (e.g., XRD, XRF, ICP-OES)
  • Confident handling of lab equipment, chemicals, and safety protocols
  • Willingness to participate in field sampling campaigns
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team is desirable
  • Experience in geochemical or mineralogical laboratory analysis is desirable
  • Experience in rock sample preparation is desirable
  • Strong documentation skills and sound technical understanding is desirable
