Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Institute of High-Frequency and Semiconductor System Technologies / Design and Hetero-Integration of Micro-Electronic Systems

Research Assistant

under the reserve that funds are granted; part-time employment may be possible

Your responsibility

As part of a third-party funded research project, an intermediate substrate layer is being developed in collaboration with an industry partner for processing within standard printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing processes. This layer integrates high-frequency waveguides for signal transmission as well as miniaturized cooling channels for liquid cooling.
The tasks at TU Berlin focus in particular on integrating this novel intermediate layer into state-of-the-art PCB processes and their associated electronic cooling systems. Another key focus lies on the coupling interfaces, especially for the low-loss coupling and decoupling of high frequencies into and out of the waveguides and onward to subsequent microelectronic system components.

Your profile

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom, or equivalent) in microsystems engineering, process engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related field
  • Knowledge and experience in the following areas:
    a) PCB embedding processes
    b) Wet chemical and plasma-based (RIE, PVD, etc.) processes for pattern formation
    c) Photolithographic processes for the fabrication of circuit substrates
    d) Knowledge and experience in the fields of microelectronic system assembly and interconnection technology
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.

Additionally desirable:

  • Processes and Materials in Microsystems Technology
  • Knowledge of CAD and preparation of manufacturing orders
  • Embedding of high frequency components
  • Structured and independent working style
  • Willingness to take responsibility for sub-tasks
  • Ability to work in a team and readiness to document work results
