Research Associate (PostDoc) permanent position

• Teaching German- and English-language courses in the BA and MA programmes "Sociology and Technology Studies", as well as on degree programmes where Sociology is offered as a minor subject. Courses to be taught cover the following subject areas: methods of social research, quantitative methods (e.g. univariate and bivariate statistics, multivariate statistics, survey methodology, digital data, computational social sciences), qualitative methods (e.g. methods of qualitative interviewing, methods of interpretative sociology, ethnography), philosophy of science, social science epistemology and social science methodology, teaching combined-teaching-and-research projects.
• Taking on administrative duties for the Institute of Sociology (e.g. curriculum coordinator; Erasmus coordinator; minor subjects coordinator).
• Contributing to the Institute of Sociology’s key research areas, and in particular to the area of "Sociological Theory, Philosophy of Science and Methods", through independent academic research, publications, project proposals and/or participation in collaborative projects.

• Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and PhD in sociology or a related discipline
• Further academic achievements in research and teaching beyond the PhD, demonstrated for example by publications on a second topic in addition to the PhD topic, teaching experience after having completed the PhD and/or principal investigator in a research project
• Teaching experience in methods of social research
• Knowledge of quantitative methods of social research (data collection, e.g. survey methodology, standardised digital data; data analysis, e.g. multiple regression analysis, correspondence analysis, cluster analysis, hierarchical linear multilevel analysis, structural network analysis, scaling methods, panel or longitudinal analysis methods, spatial analysis methods, computational social sciences), demonstrated by relevant academic achievements, further training, teaching experience or publications
• Knowledge of qualitative methods of social research (e.g. ethnography, video analysis, hermeneutics, biographical research, process-oriented methods, content analysis, case studies, grounded theory), demonstrated by relevant academic achievements, further training, teaching experience or publications
• Experience in and willingness to publish in German and/or English, demonstrated by publications;
• Willingness to contribute to the Institute’s key research and teaching areas, in particular the area of ‘Sociological Theory, Philosophy of Science and Methods’
• The ability to teach in German and/or in English is required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.

Desirable:

• Research experience with empirical research projects
• Knowledge of sociology of technology, innovation, work, labor, organisations or the economy
• Knowledge of sociology of space, architecture or urban studies
• Knowledge of social structure, social and global inequality (e.g. class, race/ethnicity/migration, gender, age)
• Experience in international collaboration
• Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary teaching
