Student assistant (40 hours per month)

Support in the MY-CO BUILD project for the development of continuous cultivation techniques in bioreactors:

• Support in investigation of I) the adhesion of the fungus to the solid substrate, II) growth, III) substrate consumption, and IV) the accumulation of the most important carbon metabolites using light microscopy, enzymatic and chromatographic metabolite analysis, and gravimetric determination (70%)
• Support in determination of typical process parameters describing microbial growth and substrate consumption, yield, and composite material yield under different cultivation conditions (20%)
• Support in modifying customized 3D-printed bioreactors (10%)

Must have:

• Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire any missing language skills
• Experience with microbiological laboratory methods (media preparation, cultivation of microorganisms)
• Initial practical experience, particularly with the cultivation of fungi and processing of natural materials

Can have:

• Basic knowledge of metabolite analysis using HPLC and microscopy of microbes
• Basic knowledge of common software for data management and visualization
