Tasks

The German government's heat pump campaign represents a significant contribution to the heating transition and to achieving the climate protection targets in the long term. A significant proportion of the German building stock is poorly insulated and has radiators of an older design, which is why relatively high flow temperatures are required to cover the heat demand. This means that potentially expensive refurbishments are necessary for the use of heat pumps and there is an acute shortage of skilled labour. A cost-effective and easy-to-install alternative could be radiator boosters, which use fans installed underneath the radiator to create forced convection and significantly improve heat transfer. This initially leads to an increase in the performance of the radiator, which allows a potential reduction in the flow temperature while at the same time covering the heat demand. In the research project, the physical relationships are to be analysed in detail using measurement technology in order to develop tailored recommendations for the use of radiator boosters in practice.

We are looking for a person who is interested in application-oriented research, enjoys dealing with scientific issues and would like to actively participate in the research project described above. If you would like to contribute your skills and conduct research for a lower CO2 and more efficient building sector, please apply. The scope of the position includes the possibility of a PhD. You can work full-time or part-time (50-100%).

Requirements

  • A successfully completed scientific university degree (Diploma, Master or equivalent) in energy and process engineering or similar
  • Metrological experience in carrying out experiments
  • Basic knowledge of building energy systems
  • A basic understanding of thermal engineering, particularly in connection with heat transfer at radiators
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.

In your application, state which required qualifications you have acquired so far.

Desirable:

  • Team and organisational skills
  • Flexibility; interest in new challenges
