University Professor - salary grade W 3

in the field of "Electrical Drives".

Tasks

Research in the field of Electrical Machines and Drives with one or more of the following focus areas:

  • Renewable energies, especially wind turbines
  • Motors and drive concepts for electric vehicles, aviation, and marine applications
  • Machines and drive systems for automation in industry and buildings
  • Resource efficiency in machines and energy efficiency of overall systems
  • Mechatronic integration of drives
  • Use of new manufacturing methods such as additive manufacturing
  • Multi-physics simulation for the design of electrical machines

Close cooperation with other disciplines, e.g. power electronics, control engineering, sensor technology, measurement and diagnostic technology, electrical energy storage technology and the development of embedded systems, as well as with disciplines from mechanical engineering and process engineering, is expected, as well as the performance of teaching duties in the bachelor's program in electrical engineering (basic study program, electrical machines, in German) and the offering of in-depth courses in the master's program (German or English). Cooperation with non- university research and industrial companies is an integral part of the job profile.

Further responsibilities include leadership and management of the work group and its staff, promotion of young scholars, women and social diversity, knowledge and technology transfer, internationalization initiatives, gender- and diversity-competent and sustainability-oriented action as well as committee and commission work.

Requirements

  • Candidates should fulfil the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act), including a completed academic education, a special aptitude for scientific work (usually proven by the quality of a doctorate), additional scientific achievements in research (usually proven by a positively evaluated junior professorship, Habilitation or Habilitation-equivalent achievements) and pedagogical qualifications (demonstrated by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio, for furher information see TUB Website https://www.tu.berlin/go209650).
  • proven expertise and a solid publication record in at least one of the above-mentioned technical fields
  • teaching experience, competence in the management of a working group, project management
  • Applicants are requested to submit a first concept of the research and teaching activities envisaged with their application.
  • Experience in the successful acquisition of external funding (public or industruial), or in the management of corresponding projects.

As an internationally distinguished university, we require very good knowledge of English and welcome applications from non-German-speaking academics who are willing to learn the German language as soon as possible.
