The position is based at the Department of Plant Ecology at the Institute of Ecology of the
TU Berlin - "Berlin School of Urban Ecology". We investigate the structure, dynamics and functionality of ecosystems and landscapes in response to climate and land use change. Our work focuses primarily on urban, coastal and estuarine systems. The most important tool is statistical and process-based modeling on the basis of diverse field studies. The focus of the position will be on the investigation of interactions and feedbacks between abiotics and biotics in coastal, estuarine or other water-dominated ecosystems, but you can develop your own research profile depending on your skills and interests.
Tasks
- Integrative research on interactions and feedbacks between abiotics and biotics in coastal, estuarine or other water-dominated ecosystems
- Cooperation with project partners and stakeholders (national parks, NGOs)
- Teaching for the degree programs BSc Ecology/Environmental Planning, BSc Landscape Architecture, MSc Urban Ecology in the scope of 4 SWS (weekly contact hours during the semester
- (Co-)supervision and guidance of student theses (BSc and MSc)
- Publication in international peer-reviewed journals
- Acquisition of third-party funding
- Participation in organizational tasks of the department and the institute
- Processing large geo and environmental data sets
Requirements
- An above-average completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and PhD in Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Geoecology, Landscape Ecology, Biology or a related discipline,
- Interdisciplinary understanding of coastal and estuarine ecosystems (e.g. salt marshes, dunes, seagrass meadows, tidal marshes, floodplain habitats) and their dynamics
- In-depth knowledge of ecological field methods (vegetation, soil, hydrodynamics)
- Knowledge of functional plant ecology and experience in biodiversity-related interdisciplinary research
- Very good knowledge of statistical analysis and programming in R as well as data management
- Extensive experience with scientific writing and communication
- Experience in teaching and thesis supervision
- The ability to teach in German and/or in English is required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
- Driving license class B or 3
Desirable:
- Willingness to conduct interdisciplinary research and a strong motivation to carry out innovative research and teaching
- Ability to work independently and cooperate in an interdisciplinary team
